Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about buying, shipping and authenticating your watch.
How much is a Rolex?
Prices depend on model, materials, and condition. At GMJ, pre-owned Rolex in Belgium currently ranges from around €2,750 for an Oyster Perpetual Lady to €115,000 for a gold Day-Date 36, with sports models like the Daytona and GMT-Master II in between. Send any reference our way for a free, same-day valuation.
How to tell if a Rolex is real?
A genuine Rolex shows a smooth, sweeping seconds hand, a crisp 2.5x Cyclops date magnifier, a micro-etched coronet on the crystal at six o'clock, and precise engravings. Weight and finishing should feel flawless. The safest route is in-house authentication: every Rolex we sell is verified, with movement photos published on the listing.
Where are Rolex watches made?
Every Rolex is made in Switzerland. The company runs four sites: its Geneva headquarters, plus Plan-les-Ouates, Chêne-Bourg, and Bienne, where movements are produced. Cases, dials, and bracelets are manufactured almost entirely in-house, which is part of why a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch holds its quality and value so consistently.
Why are Rolex watches so expensive?
Rolex controls most of its production, from smelting its own gold to machining Oystersteel, and every watch is chronometer-tested twice for accuracy. Add tightly managed supply, decades of demand, and strong resale, and prices stay high. That durability is also why many buyers treat models like the Daytona or Sky-Dweller as long-term holds.
Who owns Rolex?
Rolex is privately owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, the charitable trust set up by founder Hans Wilsdorf, who built the brand from 1905. Because it is not publicly traded, Rolex answers to no shareholders, which lets it reinvest in manufacturing and keep tight control over how each watch is built and sold.
