Jaeger-LeCoultre

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Jaeger-LeCoultre watches reward anyone who cares about what is inside the case, and this is where you can buy one in Belgium with the movement verified rather than assumed. Known as the watchmaker’s watchmaker, JLC has supplied calibres to houses far more famous than itself, which is exactly why collectors trust it. In stock now is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Mariner at €8,500, a clean mid-century-styled automatic that wears far smaller on the wrist than its reputation suggests. If you are after a different reference, a Reverso, a Polaris, or the Master Control Chronograph, our sourcing desk can hunt the right example and bring it to you wherever you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about buying, shipping and authenticating your watch.

How to pronounce Jaeger-LeCoultre?

It is commonly said “YAY-gur luh-KOOLT", with the two halves running together, and collectors often shorten it to "JLC". The name joins Antoine LeCoultre, the manufacturer's founder, with Edmond Jaeger, the Parisian watchmaker he partnered with, which is why a French and a Germanic surname sit side by side.

Is Jaeger-LeCoultre a good watch?

Very. JLC is one of the few houses that designs and builds its own movements end to end, and it has produced more than a thousand calibres over its history. That depth, plus finishing usually seen only at higher prices, makes a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch a connoisseur’s pick rather than a status purchase.

Who owns Jaeger-LeCoultre?

Jaeger-LeCoultre has been part of the Swiss luxury group Richemont since 2000, alongside Vacheron Constantin and IWC. Richemont’s scale supports JLC’s in-house movement work and global servicing, while the manufacture itself stays in Le Sentier, in the Vallée de Joux, where it has operated since 1833.

Is Jaeger-LeCoultre better than Rolex?

They answer different questions. Rolex offers robust icons with unmatched brand recognition and resale, while Jaeger-LeCoultre offers finer finishing, thinner cases, and more ambitious complications. Neither is simply better: if you want a watch that quietly impresses watchmakers, JLC leads; if you want liquidity and instant recognition, Rolex does.

When was Jaeger-LeCoultre founded?

The manufacturer was founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre in Le Sentier, Switzerland. The Jaeger-LeCoultre name as we know it came later, after the early-1900s partnership with Edmond Jaeger. Nearly two centuries on, it still builds its movements in the same valley.
